Are you stuck in a rut? Are you unhappy in your job? So are a majority of employees, even those who feel fortunate to have a job.

Livelihood host Marcy Rosenbaum and guest Zen Master Bon Soeng (Jeff Kitzes) discuss what you can do when you feel you’re living someone else’s plan for your life. Jeff talks about the power of looking inward to find what’s most important to you. When you can’t change the company or the boss, there are still some things you can do to find increased satisfaction at work. Your career, he suggests, can be an expression of who you are, even when your opportunities are stalled or limited.

In today’s interview, Jeff talks about the power of looking inward to find the meaning in the opportunities you encounter.

He enjoys my reaction of horror as he references Donald Rumsfeld comment “You don’t know what you don’t know”; and my chagrin when I acknowledge that insightful remarks can come from unlikely sources. (I take some consolation that Rumsfeld stole the comment from Albert Einstein, who said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge; knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand”.)

How does someone become a Zen Master?

One experience at a time.

Meet Jeff Kitzes, Guiding Teacher at Empty Gate Zen Center in Berkley California. Also known as Zen Master Bon Soeng (which means “original nature”) he is a meditation teacher, carpenter, licensed psychotherapist, writer and celebrant.
